Best Restaurants in Vernon: Where Locals Eat

Short answer: Locals in Vernon go downtown for dinner at Intermezzo, the Phoenix Steakhouse, The Kal and Los Huesos, grab barbecue at Station BBQ Smokehouse, start the day at Ratio Coffee & Pastry or The Fig, and head up the hill to The Edge at The Rise or RANGE at Predator Ridge when they want a view. For a waterfront meal, 1516 Pub & Grill sits right on Okanagan Lake.

I eat out a lot, partly because I love it and partly because it’s part of the job. When I show someone around Vernon, lunch is where they start to picture their life here. So this list isn’t a ranking, it’s where I actually send friends and clients.

Everything below was open and operating when I checked in 2026, but restaurants change. Check hours and book ahead where you can, especially on summer weekends.

Where should you go for a special dinner in Vernon?

Intermezzo Restaurant and Wine Cellar on 34th Avenue is a family-run downtown restaurant that calls itself Vernon’s hidden gem for fine dining, family dinners and date nights. There’s a wine cellar you can book for private dinners. The family also runs The Castle Bistro a short drive north of downtown.
Phoenix Steakhouse and Bar on 30th Avenue is the downtown steakhouse. Tourism Vernon has highlighted its rooftop patio in summer.
The Edge Restaurant and Bar at The Rise sits high above Okanagan Lake. It’s where I take people for a sunset dinner.
Gerni’s Farmhouse at Sparkling Hill Resort serves Austrian cuisine inside a centuries-old farmhouse rebuilt on the hill. Nothing else in the valley is quite like it.

What are the best casual restaurants downtown?

Downtown Vernon, around 30th Avenue, is where I’d start for a relaxed meal:

The Kal Eatery on 30th Avenue, in the historic Kalamalka Hotel building, is a local favourite for pizza, pub food and watching the game.
Los Huesos is a long-standing downtown spot for Mexican food.
Station BBQ Smokehouse on 29th Street does slow-smoked barbecue. Come hungry.
BNA Vernon combines a brewery, a restaurant and bowling, which makes it great for groups.

Where do locals go for coffee and brunch?

Ratio Coffee & Pastry downtown is a go-to for coffee and baking. Tourism Vernon mentions its donut Fridays, which are worth planning around.
The Fig on 30th Avenue does fresh breakfast and lunch, with homemade soups and sandwiches.
Friesen’s Countrytyme Gardens in Coldstream is a farm-to-table spot for breakfast or lunch in a garden setting.
Davison Orchards Farmhouse Cafe is a good family stop while the orchard is open for the season.

Where can you eat with a view of the lake?

This is Vernon’s specialty. 1516 Pub & Grill in Okanagan Landing describes itself as the only waterfront restaurant on the Vernon arm of Okanagan Lake. On the Kalamalka side, Alexander’s Beach Pub in Coldstream is steps from the water. RANGE at Predator Ridge looks over the golf courses and hills.

Cambium Cider Co in the BX serves cider and food among the apple trees, with live music.
Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery on 24th Street has a tasting room for its fruit and grain spirits.
There are plenty of wineries a short drive away in Coldstream and Lake Country, which could fill a whole post of their own.

Reserve in summer. Tourists and cottagers double the patio crowd from late June to Labour Day.
Check days of the week. Several independent restaurants close one or two days a week, often Sunday or Monday.
Look for local ingredients. Many menus lean on Okanagan produce, especially from late summer into fall.
Explore beyond downtown. Some of the best meals are at orchards, cideries and resorts a short drive out.
