Country living east of Coldstream
Lavington is a rural community in the Coldstream Valley, about 15 kilometres east of Vernon along Highway 6 toward Lumby. It's ranch and farm country, with bigger lots, acreages and hobby farms, and prices that are often gentler than in town. Downtown Vernon is about 20 minutes away.
The name has an interesting story. It comes from Lavington Park, the English estate of Scottish distiller James Buchanan, who bought the Duteau Ranch here in 1905 and turned it into the Lavington Ranch. Buchanan Road carries his name today. Ranching and logging built the community, and a local sawmill that started in the 1960s grew into Tolko Industries.
Further east, toward Lumby, the valley opens into White Valley, with more farmland and larger rural properties.
