The Outback is a gated lakeside resort community at 9845 Eastside Road, about 25 minutes south of downtown Vernon, right next to Ellison Provincial Park. It opened in 2007 and has about 180 homes on roughly 60 acres, with around 4,000 feet of beach across two bays.
The amenities are the draw: a marina with moorage, two pools, hot tubs, tennis, a fitness centre and an owners' lodge. There's a managed rental program if you want your place to earn when you're not there, which makes it popular with second-home owners.
It's a freehold strata with everything from townhomes and villas to duplexes and single-family homes. Recent prices have run from the mid $400,000s to about $1.8 million.

- Okanagan Landing Elementary (K–7). In the heart of the Landing's waterfront district, with a playground that looks out over the lake. Local families rave about the teachers. Fraser Institute 2023 rating: 5.9 out of 10.
- Clarence Fulton Secondary (Grades 8–12). A 30-acre campus beside Grahame Park, with strong athletics, arts and trades, the district's largest international program, and the AWAKEN outdoor and inquiry program.
